In January 2023, the School Building Advisory Committee (SBAC) in Cape Elizabeth took important steps toward its formation and the initiation of forthcoming school building projects. The Town Council and the School Board worked together to establish the SBAC, ensuring a cooperative approach to future decision-making in school building endeavors. A call for citizen involvement in the SBAC drew 26 applications, reflecting active community engagement in educational infrastructure. Consequently, a Joint Appointments Committee was established, consisting of three Town Councilors and three School Board members, tasked with selecting public members for the SBAC through a series of scheduled interviews.
This committee set interviews and worked toward making recommendations for SBAC public members, with confirmation votes anticipated to occur in February. The SBAC is planned to comprise nine members: five from the public and two each from the Town Council and School Board. This strategic and inclusive approach aims to guarantee that upcoming school building projects are not only administratively and educationally sound but also enjoy robust support from the Cape Elizabeth community.
